K-12 School Building Committee
May 14, 2007
The K-12 School Building Committee held a regular meeting on May 14, 2007, in Room 101A of the Stonington High School.
Present: Deane Beverly, John Bolduc, William Brown, Curt Krushinsky (Fletcher Thomspon), Gail MacDonald, Kathy Sanford, and Paul Sartor.
Absent: Peter Manning (Gilbane), Mike Mckee, John O’Brien, and Joanne Rodriguez.
(1) Call to Order/Approval of Minutes
Paul Sartor, Chairman, called the meeting to order at 7:11 p.m., and reviewed minutes from the meeting held on February 12, 2007. A motion was made by William Brown, seconded by John Bolduc, and it was voted to approve the minutes as distributed.
(2) Gilbane Building Report
Options regarding the detention basin were discussed. William Brown made a motion, seconded by Gail MacDonald and it was voted to move forward with Fleet’s cost proposal of March 23, 2007, to schedule work on the storm water detention basin on a time and material cost basis based upon the DiCesare-Bentley February 27, 2007, modified plan with a response to the items pending and design approval by the Town of Stonington.
Paul Sartor stated at present all other items will be on hold for the High School, including air conditioning. Perhaps these items can be revisited in the future. Paul Sartor will discuss the Certificate of Occupancy with Peter Manning.
(3) Fletcher Thompson Report
The chairs in the auditorium are in need of repair. Curt Kruchinsky will contact the specification writer and communicate dissatisfaction.
No invoices were submitted for approval.
(5) Elementary School Study
Paul Sartor stated $30,000 has been allotted to proceed with the study. There is a great deal of background work that must been done. He stated that goals should be set for the elementary schools.
Discussion ensued and it was the consensus of the Committee to explore all options, perhaps a phase-in project, and look at designs that fulfill the goals. John Boduc and Gail MacDonald will review the education specifications prior to the next meeting. The Committee will seek an update on prices per square foot since the elementary schools include multiple sites and multiple changes. It is important to present a well thought out plan to the public.
(6) Next Meeting/Adjournment
The next meeting of the K-12 School Building Committee will be June 11, 2007. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 8: 43 p.m.
Maureen L. Carboni, Recorder Paul Sartor, Chairman
